For those of you unsure about Birchbox, it is a UK monthly subscription box service that costs £12.95 a month. Each month you receive 5 product samples plus occasional full price products from a huge range of beauty based brands.
May’s box, ‘For The Dreamers…’, was my first Birchbox and I was very excited when it arrived. When I signed up, I had the extra luxury of adding a Cynthia Rowley Beauty black eyeliner, worth £11, to the order for free.
There was also the added bonus of potentially winning a holiday. You could discover if you were the lucky winner by scratching off the silver coating on the box lid. Unfortunately, I will not be lazing on the beach courtesy of Birchbox anytime soon.
So what is inside?
- Spectrum Collections Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge | RRP £4.99 Full size
‘To achieve truly flawless make-up, this is the tool that you need. The perfect partner for cream, mineral or liquid formulas, blend them seamlessly into skin with the rounded end, while the pointed tip gets into those hard-to-reach areas.’
Spectrum is a popular brand right now with their ‘Instagram pretty’ products and seeing this as one of the products of this box was the main reason I started my subscription. I can’t wait to try this out.
- LOC One and Done Shadow Stick – Empress Me | RRP £8 Full size
‘Expect up to 11 hours of creaseless waterproof colour in one handy stick. This nifty formula provides effortless beautiful colour.’
Another full size product, amazing! I’m excited to try this eyeshadow crayon, the colour looks lovely and the waterproof formula means the product should stay on my oily lids.
- Absolution Le Nettoyant Purete | RRP £26
‘You know that tight feeling your skin gets sometimes after cleansing? This gentle gel face cleanser will make that a thing of the past. Natural ingredients, like chamomile and oats, remove dirt and grime while reducing redness and irritation.’
My skin care routine is something I lack imagination with and struggle to choose products that I think will work. This is another reason Birchbox seemed like a great idea. I can try samples and find what works for me. This cleanser sounds like it will be perfect for my sensitive skin and I love that is is made with natural ingredients.
- Puriskin Resurfacing Cream | RRP £13.99
‘This really is a does-it-all product – whether you’re battling super-dry skin, blemishes or scarring, this calming cream will soothe and improve your complexion.’
I have combination skin so a product like this that can tackle my dry patches while also fighting my blemishes caused by excessive oil is something I really need in my routine. This product contains chamomile which is great for you.
Whish Three Whistles Almond Body Butter | RRP £14.50
‘Organic aloe, shea and raspberry butter create a decadent formula (with no greasy residue!) to conquer dryness and leave your skin feeling silky-smooth. Plus organic seaweed extract works to firm the skin’s surface.’
I am so bad for moisturising my skin as I find there is nothing worse than that greasy feeling on your skin so I am dying to try this body butter. With such natural ingredients too, it sounds like a treat!
Plus, a small sample of Vita Coco coconut oil was also included. Coconut oil is so versatile. It can be used for nourishing your hair and skin, in food and also to whiten teeth. I think I will use this sample for nourishing the ends of my hair. I’ve only used coconut oil to whiten my teeth, so I look forward to seeing the difference it will make to my hair.
I’d say my favourite item from this box would be the Spectrum sponge but all that could change when I try out the products. I will keep you informed!
